New Team Member: Nick Walling

Hi everyone!
My name is Nick Walling. I was born and raised in Shannon - a small town just a few kilometers north of where I live now in Quebec City. I’ve spent the last few years working as a communications professional at non-profit organizations in Ontario and I’m really happy to have the opportunity to be closer to, and now work with, my family in Quebec!
I have a DCS from CEGEP St. Lawrence in social sciences, an HBA in Film, Media and Cultural Studies with a minor in Creative Writing and Journalism from Bishop’s University, and a Diploma of Public Relations from Western Continuing Studies in London, Ontario.
I began my career in London at the London Community Foundation and spent almost three years learning the ins and outs of non-profit communications and community development there. I got to meet tons of interesting folks - from donors to community organizers to socially conscious entrepreneurs - and was witness to so many cool projects and initiatives. However, while hunkering down in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, I began feeling homesick and decided to move closer to home, accepting a position at the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association (CHPCA) in Ottawa.
At CHPCA, I learned what it was like working for a national organization. Timezones mattered now! I got to support and collaborate with palliative care activists, researchers, and workers from across Canada on awareness and knowledge translation projects. I got to redesign logos for the CHPCA Conference, the Palliative Care Coalition of Canada and Hike for Hospice as well as direct the look and feel of CHPCA’s national awareness campaigns.
As an employee at Momentum 2.0, I’m very interested in the impacts that Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI are having on society.
On a personal level, I love horror movies, playing my banjo, baseball, hockey, and running when I can.
